About IMCAtas

IMCAtas was established to bring together and represent individuals involved in the injury management and return to work process in Tasmania.  When amendments to the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 took effect from 1 July 2010 the Tasmanian Return to Work and Injury Management Model was implemented.

This legislation refers in Part 11, Division 3 to the appointment and responsibilities of the Injury Management Co-ordinator, a new role created to co-ordinate and oversee the entire injury management process.  The role includes:

  • Facilitation of Medical Treatment.
  • Return to Work.
  • All Aspects of Return to Work and Injury Management Plans.
  • Communication and Liaison Between Key Parties.

With sponsorship by WorkCover Tasmania several facilitated meetings were conducted in 2012 to ascertain interest, support and direction for an IMC networking group.  From these meetings a steering committee was established and it was agreed to proceed to formalise an independent Association.  With continued support from WorkCover Tasmania an Inaugural General Meeting was held on 2 November 2012 and IMCAtas was incorporated on 6 March 2013.

Members are currently meeting on a quarterly basis and the future focus of the Association is being determined.  This focus includes:

  • Ongoing Professional Training and Development.
  • Networking Opportunities.
  • A Continuing Commitment to Provide Input to Stakeholders and Government Organisations when an Opinion is Sought Regarding Injury Management Issues.
